Uploading files to your web hosting service will require an FTP program like Filezilla, or by means of cPanel (go to File Manager and use Upload Files) which comes with most web hosting packages these days. You can also use upload managers from old – and dare I say primitive – hosting services, though they do not allow you to upload an entire folder, hence, you might end up uploading each and every file individually.

4. Extract the uploaded WordPress installer, again via FTP or via cPanel. WordPress will take care of the rest.

5. Create a MySQL database via cPanel. This database will be dedicated to WordPress.

6. Look for the file wp-config-sample.php and rename it to wp-config.php.

7. Open the newly renamed wp-config.php with Notepad. Edit the following lines:

define(‘insert your MySQL username here’, ”); //
define(‘insert your password here’, ”); //

8. Go to http://www.yourURL.com/wp-admin/install.php if your WordPress installer is uploaded in your root folder, or http://www.yourURL.com/subpage/wp-admin/install.php if your WordPress is uploaded in a subpage. Installation will be automatic once the correct page is loaded.

9. Start posting!

Can someone please recommend the best Word Press tutorial?

All my post grad degrees have not prepared me for Word Press. I know it’s simple. I know everyone can use and apply it. But I can’t. I really need a complete idiot’s step by step tutorial. Can anyone help please?

There are two ways to use Word Press. The first way is to sign up directly to their site and start a blog, you will have an address such as: username.wordpress.com. The second way you can use Word Press is by registering a domain name and paying monthly to host that domain name. Your hosting provider (such as Start Logic or iPage) will have a control panel to log into, where you can then install Word Press to your site. That way you will have a normal URL such as www.username.com, without the wordpress extension in the front.
